Our small community of Spanish Fork was rocked by a tragedy this last weekend. If you haven't heard read here and here. No we didn't know the families of the young girls, but Joe was one of the emergency responders. It has had quite an effect on our family. I have tried to be an ear for Joe but I dont fully comprehend what the scene was like or what he experienced that night. And I will spare you the gruesome details. He has had debriefing and talked with the other responders that night. Don't worry he is doing fine, just something that will take some time to get through. Myself as a mother has wondered how the mother of the sisters is doing. I could not imagine losing one child let alone 2. What pain you must be going through. Well Joe called me this morning and said check out this website kelseaandsavvy.blogspot.com. The mother of the 2 sisters has started this blog to let others understand what they are going through and to keep everyone updated. He says, but it may make you cry. So I log on, I read and of course I cry. But my first thought was wow this mother has such strength and amazing faith. Joe calls me during his lunch break and asks if I have read the blog. I answered yes and I cried. He said that he felt such a great comfort in knowing exactly how the family is doing. So thank you to the family for that. We of course are keeping the families and friends of the 3 girls in our thoughts and prayers. But I also want the emergency responders (fireman, EMT's, deputies) and train engineers and many other people that were there that night to know they are also in our thoughts and prayers. thank you for all you do honey and all you other emergency personel!

Whats up?
What is new in our house? Well we have a Big BOY!!! Wes has grown up so much in the past week. He decided one night he wanted to pee on the potty and wear underwear. We were all for encouraging this. Joe and I also decided to hide the diapers. Wes asked a couple of times to wear a diaper and we just told him sorry we dont have any more. He has only had a couple of accidents the first day. We have not even peed the bed at night!! My mom scored this awesome little toddler bed at a yard sale. Wes was super excited to have a new bed, but at the same time he did not want to give his crib to Aunt Lauren. That was his bed....It makes me a little sad to see how big his has gotten in the last week.....

Part Time?
A couple of months ago we found out we were going to loose our sitter for the afternoon. Panic set in. Does this mean we are really going to have to put Wes in Daycare? Even part time daycare? We have been so fortunate to have my sister and Joe's family help us out that Daycare just isnt really an option for us. So I went into work and asked if I could work half day 1 day a week to help out. We figured between Joes' Family and Nikki we could make it work. They told me they would think about it and get back to me. Well they came back with stay full time and take on a bigger workload, or keep your current workload and only work 25-30 hours a week (part time). PART TIME really!!! Of course I wanted to immediately say part time. I told them let me have a couple of days to think it over and talk to my husband. Because of course the first thing that goes through your head is can we afford for me to only work part time? Joe and I discussed it and it just seemed like we would need to stay full time to pay all the bills and to be able play this summer.
But as the couple days wore on i just had this feeling it was the wrong choice. Was it because I really wanted to stay home with Wes in the afternoons? Was I being Selfish? I would loose money how would we go camping, or to Vegas? Late Sunday night we got our answer. We were scrambling to find a sitter for the afternoons that week. We decided that we dont have any other choice but to go part time. So we say down and weighed our options: how much of a cut in pay it would be vs. daycare in the afternoons. The obvious choice part time. So after working all the little kinks out and my schedule I went part time May 1.
I have stressed about the bills and being able to afford to be home to take care of Wesley, but so far everything has worked out. And at least once a week something comes up and Joe & I look at each and say "see this is exactly why you are only working part time". A month later and I know I have made the right decision for my family and myself. I am so happy to be able to be home and Wes loves having mom home after lunch. I mean who wouldnt love to work 8-1 Mon-Fri. and the best part of all I get to share my afternoons with these two silly kids! :)

Easter
We spent Easter with my parents this year. Wes still doesn't understand who the Easter Bunny is or what an egg hunt is... But we still had a great time together as a family.

Trials
Recently life has dealt our little family some trials (or major stress). But through it all we have had one carefree, worry free, happy little 2 year old boy to make us smile and to remember it will get better.
